BIO 227 Understanding Structural Diversity through Biological Illustration
To complete a General Education Program (GEP) science requirement, I was thrilled to take Biological Illustration. I chose this course because I thought it would be an opportunity to step away from the computer monitor and improve upon my drawing abilities. The course was very informative about general biology, observational skills, and accurate drawing techniques. The majority of the illustrations below were created with an ink pen using the stippling technique.

The course met twice a week and included a lecture day and a lab day. We would learn the material during the lectures and use the information to start/complete our drawings during the lab sessions (the sessions were 3 hours long, and the drawings took much longer than 3 hours to complete). Once the drawings were complete, the research, title, scientific name and labels were added.
